Named after the Tom Waits song. This is the river Misery running through Strangeland, and those are beatnik ostriches with human faces, smoking doobies on the bank.
The funny thing about the ostriches is that they believe Tom Waits is God. He rides around Strangeland on a giant gorilla, nobody knows why, and he is only seen at certain times. Every time he tells them he is not God they stick their heads in the sand. They are good company though. They love music and poetry.
